Phones - How To Find The Cheapest Phone Calling Card

The number of advertisements on the internet and the magazines regarding calling cards today have made the decision making process a trifle confusing and complicated. Prepaid calling phone cards are designed to be used while you are out of your home city or town on a vacation or a business trip. They are made to facilitate calling from most phones easier and affordable by cutting down on stupendous charges or surcharges levied by hoteliers and other gamut of tourist attractions.
Most times, the prepaid phone card calling rates are comparable to those imposed by Sprint, AT&T or MCI WorldCom. These companies charge anywhere between 69 to 89 cents a minute for long distance along with a surcharge, if not renewed monthly.

However, paying a monthly subscription cuts costs.

A monthly fee of $1 to AT&T will cut the calling-card rate down to 25 cents a minute; a monthly fee of $2 to MCI will bring it down to 15 cents a minute. Sprint is offering dime-a-minute calling-card-calls for a monthly subscription of an extravagant $10.95. This is the main reason why prepaid phone-calling-cards with rates like a penny a minute are getting more and more popular by the day.

There are too many calling card companies that offer cheap rates owing to the deregulated environment. Moreover, since the industry is extremely competitive, many companies use marketing tricks for attracting customers. One need to be careful while choosing a phone card.

The major challenge that is faced by people today is to choose the right card. Calculating the final cost of a call is the challenge and making a choice based on it is further across the ridge. A lowest call cost can get obliterated by surcharges most of the time.

The "con" of using a prepaid phone calling card is that, before you dial your destination, you need to dial a special 1-800 number and a long "PIN". Despite this minor inconvenience, phone calling cards are very popular among international callers, owing to their low cost.

So, in the next five minutes, let's learn the three basic things you must know about phone cards before you start using them: Many card come with a standard fee for per call connection, in addition to the penny or nickel per minute charges. Making long calls from such cards is more advisable, since the longer the call, the lesser per minute cost, due to fixed connection cost which normally is 49c. Whenever you make a call from these cards, a computer advises you about the status of your card ? how much money or how many minutes are still available.

Always make sure that you pick up cards of value needed, and not the big bang cards. You can never be sure, if the provider is still in business after a few months..

Cell Phone Recycle Company Creates a Winning Strategy for the Environment and Fundraisers

(ContentDesk) January 1, 2004 Tulsa, OK -- Conscientious cell phone users may be able to avert a dangerous threat to our environment caused by discarded cell phones.
A new law allows cell phone users to retain their old phone number while switching wireless carriers.
Experts estimate up to 50% of the 150 million cell phone users will switch carriers in the next 12 months. The majority of people who switch however, will not be allowed to use their old phones due to different technologies employed by the service carriers.
This phenomenon is prompting great concern that millions of cell phones, no longer useful to their owners, will simply be disposed.

The real danger lies in the fact that cell phones contain chemicals that have been proven to cause cancer and other reproductive, neurological, and developmental disorders.
Many Americans are concerned about these toxins ending up in their landfills.
There is an answer to this problem that...

Movie Review - Cellular

Cellular - 2005 New Line Productions Inc.I had a chance to watch Cellular the other day and my first thought was that here we go with another spin-off of Phone Booth, another movie with someone forced to stay on the phone for 90 some minutes while we cringe in our seat. But, to my surprise , this was actually a very enjoyable movie. I'm am not really sure what genre to classify this movie in because it has it all. Suspense, drama, action, comic relief; this movie has everything. The movie begins with the kidnapping of Jessica Martin, played by Kim Bassinger.Jessica is a high school science teacher, (that happens to wear fishnet stockings!!) who has her home broken into and mysteriously taken away to an unknown location by the "bad guys" and placed in an attic. They smash the phone hanging on the wall and proceed to lock Jessica in the attic.

Jessica then "rigs" the broken phone (remember - she's a science teacher) and is able to randomly dial a phone number. Now enters Ryan, played...

What's the truth about cell phones and your health?

eems that with every new advance in technology a question arises about its long term health effects. The cellular phone has not escapedthe question. Indeed there are those that firmly believe that using cellular phones causes brain damage.Linking cell phones with cancer has been a hot topic for some time, said Rob Denell, director of Kansas State University's Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research. "This has been a very controversial area for some years now and a number of people have tried to file suits against cell phone companies claiming cell phone radiation-induced cancers," he said."The consensus in the field has been that there is no credible link between cell phone usage and cancers." Studies have been conducted in various countries around the world exposing lab rats to radiation levels similar to the microwaves found incell phones, and upon examination, were found to have brain cancer.

This study has never been replicated however, and has not been publishedin...

Why A Satellite Phone May Be Right For You

What is the best way for you to communicate with others? Depending on what your needs are, it just might be a satellite phone. I had heard of satellite phones, but didn’t know what they were really good for. I found, though, that they can be the best way for you to communicate, especially in remote area where you may not be able to find mobile phone coverage. What is good is that with a satellite phone you can probably manage to stay connected no matter where in the world you might be at any given time.

In many ways, a satellite phone looks a lot like the old mobile phones from the 1980’s. They are large and have a big antenna that must be extended for use, which is because of the way the phones work.

Satellite phones, unlike mobile phones, work by “talking” to satellites that are in orbit around the Earth. Most mobile phone cannot communicate from anywhere on Earth, a good satellite phone, though...
